Jockeys' Guild Education Foundation

The Jockeys’ Guild is proud to introduce the Jockeys’ Guild Education Foundation (JGEF)—a first-of-its-kind initiative in the United States dedicated entirely to the educational advancement of professional active, retired, and permanently disabled jockeys.

Created in partnership with the Lavin Family Foundation and Glen Hill Farm, this program is designed to support both active, retired, and permanently disabled Jockeys' Guild members as they prepare for long-term financial stability and meaningful careers beyond the racetrack.

What the Education Initiative Offers Members

Through the Jockey Education Foundation, eligible jockeys will have access to:

  • Scholarships to pursue higher education and training
  • Personalized academic guidance tailored to individual goals
  • Career and skills development programs for life after riding
  • Financial empowerment resources to build long-term security
  • This initiative ensures jockeys have the tools, knowledge, and support needed to succeed—both during and after their riding careers.

About Jockeys' Guild Education Foundation

Program Funding & Future Growth

Pending Board approval, the foundation will operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, enabling it to accept tax-deductible contributions and grow through grants, donations, and industry partnerships.

The Jockeys’ Guild has led ongoing conversations and collaborative efforts with key industry stakeholders to help establish the Jockeys’ Guild Education Foundation (JGEF). While the foundation will operate as a separate nonprofit entity, the Guild will remain a close partner in advancing its mission and ensuring every Guild member has access to free educational opportunities and career development resources.

This initiative is made possible through the leadership and generosity of Craig Bernick and Carole Lavin Bernick, whose Lavin Family Foundation and Glen Hill Farm have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to jockey welfare, equine research, and Thoroughbred industry philanthropy. Their initial support of the JGEF will help fund startup operations, scholarships, and program administration.

Through the Lavin Family Foundation’s support, combined with ongoing fundraising and industry partnerships, the foundation’s goal is to provide training programs and educational services to Guild members at no cost.
