Winning more graded stakes than any other North American jockey last week, Drayden Van Dyke was voted Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for December 30, 2019 to January 5, 2020. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Jockey of the Week is sponsored by FoundationDetox.com, America’s #1 Equine Toxin Remover.
Drayden Van Dyke had two stakes mounts at Santa Anita over the weekend and made the most of them – he swept both stakes with ease on a pair of winners from the Bob Baffert barn.
On Saturday, Van Dyke guided Authentic ($4.40) to a convincing 7-length win in the $100,000 Sham Stakes (G3), earning 10 Kentucky Derby points for the 3-year-old Into Mischief colt.
He returned on Sunday with another favorite, Bast ($3.20); the pair won the $200,000 Santa Ynez (G2) by nearly two lengths.
Van Dyke kicked off the year with seven wins in 20 starts and earned $361,890, the second highest money earned among North American jockeys last week. He is 656 for 4,038 lifetime and has earnings of over $40 million in his career to date. He led all jockeys by money earned in stakes races, with $180,500.
Among all jockeys in North America, Van Dyke was ranked 21st by overall earnings for 2019. He was honored with the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey in 2014 and won his first Breeders’ Cup race in 2018 aboard Stormy Liberal in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
