After a five-win day at Golden Gate on Saturday, Juan Hernandez was voted Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for November 18-24, 2019. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Juan Hernandez was slated to ride seven races at Golden Gate on Saturday, and he won his first three races of the day with Awesome Silver ($7.20), Anna Lee Encore ($4.20) and Coco Bee ($9.80).
He returned at the end of the card to sweep the late double with Blue Diva ($8.60) and Social Etiquette ($8.60). Only one of his five wins was aboard a post-time favorite, and he finished second and fourth in his other two mounts for the day.
With 12 wins, Hernandez was the leading North American rider by number of wins last week. He also finished in the exacta in 77% of his 22 starts. In 2019, he has won 184 of his 770 mounts and is 1,724 for 8,222 lifetime.
Hernandez landed among the top 20 riders by total earnings for the week, adding $187,740 to his 2019 total of $4,034,734. In his career to date, he has earned over $30.8 million.
Hernandez recently finished second in the TVG Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) aboard Anneau d’Or, a head behind winner Storm the Court and Flavien Prat. He also rode the 2-year-old to his 8-length maiden-breaking win at Golden Gate in September.
Hernandez is a multiple graded stakes winning jockey with two San Francisco Mile Stakes (G3) victories and a win in the Berkeley Handicap (G3).
