The winner of the 2019 Queen’s Plate Stakes at Woodbine last weekend, Flavien Prat was voted Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for June 23-30, 2019. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Last weekend, Flavien Prat became the 13th jockey to win both the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the American Triple Crown, and the Queen’s Plate Stakes, the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown.
Prat joined an even more elite group by sweeping the two races in the same year, becoming only the third jockey to complete the task. In 1998, Kent Desormeaux won the Kentucky Derby aboard Real Quiet and won the Queen’s Plate aboard Archers Bay. In 1964, Bill Hartack swept both races with same horse, Northern Dancer.
Prat and One Bad Boy ($9.70) were the third favorite betting interest in the 14-horse field at Woodbine on Saturday. The pair gained an early lead and won wire-to-wire, clearing the rest of the pack by over three lengths.
He also won the $100,000 Charlie Barley Stakes with The Black Album and finished second in the $175,000 King Edward Stakes (G2) with Curlin’s Honor.
With his stakes performances, Prat led all jockeys by both stakes and total earnings. He picked up $537,524 in stakes earnings and added $568,124 last week to his 2019 total of $10,071,750. He has earned $52.7 million in his career to date.
Prat raced at Woodbine and Los Alamitos last week, making a combined six starts and only finishing out of the money once. He has won 86 of 374 starts in 2019 and is 696 for 3,627 lifetime.
