After leading the nation in total wins and hitting the board on 76% of his mounts, Arnaldo Bocachica was voted the Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for May 26th - June 1st. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America.
With the resumption of racing at Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races on May 14th, Charles Town’s leading rider Arnaldo Bocachica continued to pad his lead atop the jockey’s standings, leading the nation in total wins for the week with seven and victorious in the $50,000 Confucius Say Stakes.
After breaking their seven-race win streak with a second-place finish in an allowance race in March, Bocachica and the three-time stakes winner Penguin Power were united again in the West Virginia Bred Confucius Say Stakes. The five-year-old Fiber Sonde gelding who has won eleven of 14 career starts was gunned to the lead from the outside post and was confidently handled by the veteran journeyman as the duo set the pace along the rail. Bocachica led at every call, winning convincingly for leading trainer Jeff Runco and returning $4.20 to their backers.
Arnaldo Bocachica finished the week maintaining a 41% win percentage and was in the money on 76% of his mounts. With seven wins, three seconds, and three, his earnings totaled $109,076.
Bocachica has won 60 of 195 starts this year with earnings of $963,776. He has won 1,848 of 9,091 lifetime career mounts with earnings exceeding $31 million.
