Jockey Mario Gutierrez earned his 1,000th career victory when he booted home Hot Paris Night to win the final race on the card at Santa Anita Feb. 9.
Racing just off the pace throughout the early stages of the race, the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Hot Paris Night rallied in the stretch to win by a neck to provide Gutierrez with his milestone victory.
During a ceremony held in the winner's circle after the race, the two-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey said, “The 1,000 wins mean a lot to me. It's been a helluva run. Two Kentucky Derby wins, two Breeders' Cups, the Preakness…It's been amazing. I never thought I'd be at this level, so I'm very happy.”
