Belmont Stakes winner Joel Rosario named Jockey of the Week

After a stellar weekend in the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, voters unanimously selected Joel Rosario as the Jockeys’ Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for June 3 – 9, 2019. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys’ Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Last weekend, Joel Rosario was the leading jockey of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival and was honored with the Eddie Arcaro award. Rosario won seven races and placed second five times during the festival.

Rosario won the feature race of the festival and final leg of the Triple Crown, the $1,500,000 Belmont Stakes (G1) in an upset with Sir Winston ($22.40).

The previous day, Rosario won the $250,000 True North Stakes (G2) with Catalina Cruiser ($5.60). He also was second in both the Jaipur Invitational (G1) with Om and the Brooklyn Invitational (G2) with Rocketry.

Rosario was the second leading North American jockey by total earnings last week, adding $1,534,761 to his 2019 total of $10.8 million and his lifetime total of $197.8 million. He was third leading jockey by stakes earnings with $1,238,100.

Including his seven wins, Rosario finished in the money in 54% of his 26 starts last week. He has won 90 races in 2019 and is 2,698 for 14,795 lifetime.
