DOMINGUEZ WINS 4, STRETCHES LEAD IN SPA JOCKEY STANDINGS

Aug 14th, 12
For the second time in five days, Ramon Dominguez won four races at Saratoga Race Course on Monday to widen his lead in the jockey standings.

From NYRA Communications Department

With 39 wins through the first four weeks of the meet, Dominguez holds an 18-race lead over Javier Castellano and Jose Lezcano, who are tied for second in the jockey standings with 21 wins apiece.

Dominguez, the two-time reigning Eclipse Award winner for Outstanding Jockey, started the day with a win, taking race 1 with Buckeye Heart ($9.10). Third in race 2 and without a mount in race 3, Dominguez piloted Synthesizer ($40.80) to an upset in race 4, then capped his own rolling double with a score in race 5 aboard King David ($5.80).

The riderís final win on the card came in race 8, a two-mile event, aboard Ea ($4.70), who was part of a coupled entry. Dominguez was fourth in race 6, seventh in race 7, and second in race 10.

Dominguez also won four races on Thursday, August 9. On July 22 he became the second jockey in the history of Saratoga to win six races on a single card, joining recent Hall of Fame inductee John Velazquez.

Dominguez seeks his second Angel Cordero, Jr. riding title, having topped the Saratoga jockey standings in 2009. Overall, he has won 17 Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, and Saratoga meet titles and has led the year-end NYRA jockey standings the past three years.

Todd Pletcher leads all trainers with 20 wins, with Chad Brown in second with 14.
