Finished 17th in earnings in 2002 with $8,727,436.
Won the Eclipse Award as champion apprentice jockey in 1998. Was the recipient of the Caribbean Sportsmen Award, given to outstanding Jamaican athletes. Shared the riding title at the 2002 Aqueduct spring meeting with John Velazquez. Became the 11th jockey to win six races in a single day in New York when he went six for nine at Aqueduct on Feb. 15, 1998. Has two previous Breeders' Cup mounts, finishing fourth in the 2002 Classic with Evening Attire and ninth with Peeping Tom in the 2001 Sprint. Top mounts in 2003 have included Peeping Tom (James B. Moseley Breeders' Cup Handicap) and Go Rockin' Robin (Peter Pan Stakes). Was introduced to racing by his father, Gerald, an avid fan who took his son to the track on weekends ... Father would not allow him to become a jockey until he graduated from high school ... Worked his way up the backside ladder, starting as a hot walker before moving on to be a groom and, after a few years, an exercise rider ... His first win was on Glitter Lad at Calder Racecourse in August 1997. |
